Personal Profile

I create sculptures that resemble chairs, supports, vessels, and architectural fragments forms designed to hold bodies, weight, and memory. Their structures appear familiar and dependable, yet a proportion shifts, a balance strains, a support tilts just enough to introduce doubt. They promise stability while quietly resisting it.

Working with ceramics alongside steel, lead, and other industrial materials, I investigate the space between function and refusal. Through structural imbalance, repetition, and material tension, I examine how support is built, maintained, and experienced across bodies, families, and institutions. 

As a French and first-generation American artist, I am interested in how stability is negotiated rather than given. By destabilizing familiar forms, I ask what becomes visible when the structures we rely upon no longer perform as expected.

Anna-Isabelle Bruey-Sedano holds a BFA in Sculpture from Concordia University in Montréal and is currently pursuing an MFA in Sculpture at San Francisco State University. Her work has been exhibited at Galerie Nicolas Robert, VAV Gallery, the Minnesota Street Project, California Conference for the Advancement of Ceramic Arts and other artist-run and institutional venues across Canada, France, and the United States.
